I had been present a few times already at Iliana's group, Balkani's performances. She is just absolutly amazing, so talented, patient with the kids while normally less! Iliana had been trying - since I know her (over 10 years!)- to continue teaching her Bulgarian dances. It had been so hard for her, it is still so hard and it becomes even harder if there is not more support from the cultural and artistic organizations. I am always so impressed by Iliana's determination and efforts for conserving your amazing beauties of your culture through dances in Montreal and letting the little Bulgarian sweetest little kids to keep it survived! Bravo to you! Bravo to the parents & kids. Bravo to the supporters! Keep going and one day the society understands that the humanity's chance of growing collectively will be through such amazing traditional dances! For me to see Iliana's energy while she is working on the preparation of the kids' costumes, make-up, rehearsal...I say she is just gathering all the energy of the 5000 history of Bulgaria in to reflect it through their 5 minutes performance! She had done much longer events but that night at Oscar Peterson, it was a competition and she had asked me to be there with my camera! All this work done for 5 minutes performance is just breath-taking!
I love what you are doing, I find all the dancers and costumes that Iliana & Brigid made together absolutely magnificent and so fresh and real ....these wonderful kids remind me of myself who loved performing while doing all my choreographs by myself!
My tears were running while I was preparing these photos for this page! I wish for all the passionate artists like Iliana, the best AWARNESS by the society and more support to this beautiful and ancestral Bulgarian art!
